KIDNEYS
LABELED DIAGRAM OF URINARY SYSTEM.
- Abdominal Aorta- The abdominal aorta is an arbitrary anatomic entity.
- Renal Vein-The renal veins are veins that drain the kidney. They connect the kidney to the inferior vena cava. They carry the blood purified by the kidney.
- Inferior Vena cava- The inferior vena cava is a vein that carries blood from the lower body to the heart. This vein carries de-oxygenated blood.
- Renal artery- Either of two branches of the abdominal aorta of which each supplies one of the kidneys.
- Ureter- The duct by which urine passes from the kidney to the bladder or cloaca.
- Urinary Bladder- A membranous sac in many vertebrates that serves for the temporary retention of urine and discharges by the urethra.
- Urethra- The duct by which urine is conveyed out of the body from the bladder, and in which male vertebrates also convey semen.
THE URINARY SYSTEM
- Two kidneys - remove liquid waste from the blood in the form of urine.
- Nerves in the bladder - alert us when it is about time to urinate.
- Two sphincter muscles -they keep the urine from leaking by closing tightly like a rubber band around the opening of the bladder.
